Oklahoma Wildfires

On Thursday April 9, 2009 Midwest City and Choctaw Oklahoma were burned and burned badly. These fires moved through highly populated areas with 50 mile sustained winds fighting them was almost useless.

As the fires moved I paced. I paced because the fires were moving closer and closer to my parents house. They were less than a mile away on one side and 1.5 miles away on another, and to compound the issue the winds shifted during all of this. Luckily my parents were saved but over 130 homes were not! Below are some photos from the Daily Oklahoman Website where a firend of mine works.

Murphy

Walking with my Wife

My Wife and I took the dogs for a walk and this is what I found to help me wind down after a crazy day!

Grippin & Grinnin

Today I went to a meeting, a good ole fashion of grip & grinn session. It was a completely worthless! Meetings a meeting sake maybe the biggest pet peeve that i have. Let me tell you that nothing annoys me more than a meeting for no reason. This was a meeting so that we could "put a face with a name". Well to be completely honest, I don't care what you people look like and even more than that I don't want to meet you.

On a side not the people we meet with ad a perfect face for radio, if you get my drift!

AHHHHH makes me so frustrated, I am all for productive meetings, but this on was dumb.

Bronx becomes Brooklyn

You know how sometimes you think that you have it all sorted out, and then you find something out about someone and it completely changes your opinion? Well that happened to my wife and I this weekend! Bronx is our foster puppy for the have for the weekend maybe longer. As part of being good foster parents it is our responsibility to take Bronx to showings so that he can get adopted as soon as possible.

So yesterday PetsMart was having an adopt-a-thon so we took Bronx for his debut. There were a ton of people there and also a lot of rescues. We were just hanging out talking to folks as they came up to pet and ask about the dogs, and then it happened!

Two laddies walked up and knelt down and began to pet Bronx, and were asking my wife questions. My beautiful wife answered the questions and then one of the ladies says, "did you say this was a boy?". My wife said yes he is a male and his name is Bronx. The nice lady then said I hate to tell you but this is a girl. My wife looks up in shock and says "no he's a boy, I think". I immediately respond by telling my wife (while laughing) that it is either one or the other. The ladies laugh and continue on shopping.

My wife then says I am going to pick him up and you look and tell me if he is a boy or a girl. She picks him up and all of the sudden he is not a he but a she! We laugh, and wonder how the shelter and the vets office could miss such an obvious issue!

So, Bronx is now Brooklyn, and a wonderful girl she is. Check her out!

Bronx

We have a brand new foster puppy name Bronx (my choice) for the weekend. He is 4 months old and cute as a button, and a bit of a wild child! We are waiting on another foster to come open, so until then we get to watch him grow and terrorize! I must say that I have forgotten how much work that puppies are.

That is all I am going to write for now, I must go check on the pup!!!!!

Look for pictures later!!!

Happy Valentines Day!!!!!

Recovery Running

I went on a run today, not just an ordinary run, but a recovery run. This wasn't your typical recovery run, this was a special recovery run. This run was for my mind, it was my way of decompressing from a crazy week.

I am proud to say that I am recovered, and ready to take on what ever the world throws at me next. So the next time you feel like it is all to much go for a recovery run, and then take another look!

Pho Wednesdays

I wanted to fill everyone in on one of my new favorite foods, Pho Hoa (Pronounced Fa Wha) it is a Vietnamese noodle soup. It comes in several different varieties, but the basic premise is thin rice noodles in a very very hot broth. Thinly sliced rare or raw beef is placed in, and cooked by the broth. Now I know it sounds gross, but I promise you that it is best thing ever!!

My brother, myself, and another friend meet their every Wednesday. I love it more and more each time! So if you get the opportunity to try Pho, give it a shot I promise you will be pleasantly surprised!

Change

I have a friend, her name is Liz or E. Rose as I like to call her, and she changed, boy did she ever change! You see Liz is the youth pastor at the church that I attend and we have been good friends for many years. We were went to college together where we were on the rowing team and spent many morning at 5 am suffering through very rough workouts in very cold conditions. Like I said she is my friend! Any-who, Liz is a bit spontaneous as they say, and if you ever talk to her this is what the conversation felt like at times: "akljdflajhdflkhadfnasdofnadfnoaidfhlasdhflashdofihaodnfasdfoiahofnaldfgalhdfiha"
Now keep in mind that Liz is one of the most upbeat and fun people I know, whether at 5 am or 7 pm it makes no matter. So the conversations were a blast just a bit overwhelming at times!

So this fall Liz found out that she got accepted to a spiritual dance program in Berkley CA, and since dance is a passion she jumped at the opportunity to use one of her passions to minister!

Great right? Well, like I said earlier she changed! Liz came back in late December and the first time I saw her was at the Christmas Eve service, and she looked the same, she danced and her dancing looked more polished but she still had her unique style, but it was still Liz. So the youth had a lock-in and she asked if I could help, and of course I said sure, and that is when I noticed it. Now, you have to understand something about the way Liz runs a youth group if you ask her what time she will say 6ish, the ish part is super important because she doesn't get caught up on the whole schedule idea etc. So Liz addressed all the kiddos after they all arrived, and something was different she was organized. I could not pinpoint it at first but things were planned, structured, or as structured as you can be with 30 Jr. high and high school students. I was flabbergasted, this is not the Liz I know this is not the semi organized chaos that I am familiar with. What the heck is going on, who stole the youth director?

Now don't get me wrong her spunk and funk was still there it was just.... controlled and moderated. So E. Rose, welcome back and congratulations you've changed. Not only have you changed, but you have changed for the better!
